Eating a balanced diet

There is a lot of conflicting information detailing the best diets out there. From my experience the best way to achieve optimum nutrition is to eat a variety of fruit, vegetables and meats and to limit the processed foods in your diet. For some people being a Vegetarian, Vegan, Paleo or Keto works for them but for a majority of the general population maintaining these diets for long periods of time proves very hard.

So where to begin…

The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating can be a good place to start, although some of the general guidelines need to be changed for individuals with health conditions or specific health and fitness goals, as well as pregnancy and breastfeeding.

In a nutshell we should generally be:

Eating a range of fruit, vegetables, grains, meats and dairy each day

Limiting alcohol, fat, sugar and salt in our diet

And drinking lots and lots of water

But of course that’s easier said then done!
