Looking for a way to wind down after a busy week at work? I love the Johanna Basford colouring in books!
Johanna has created a beautiful range of adults colouring in books, notebooks, postcards, Artist’s edition books, calendars and diaries that cater to a range of tastes. My favourites include; Lost Ocean, Magical Jungle, Enchanted Forest and the first book I bought (my all time favourite) Secret Garden. These beautifully created books will appeal to both young and old and are easily available from Big W online and in Tasmanian stores, as well as from Johanna’s website https://www.johannabasford.com/books/ and book stores such as Dymocks. Prices range from $5 at Big W up to $35 Aus in other stores.
Find yourself a good set of quality pencils. A good pencil will glide over the page without getting stuck allowing you to colour in with ease. I love watercolour pencils to colour in with. Some favourite brands of mine include: Faber-Castell and Derwent Pencils (with prices starting at $3 for a 12 pack at Big W) and going all the way up to artists sets costing in the hundreds of dollars. Office works also have a great range to choose from. I have found that a 24 pack of pencils is great to start with but the more you colour, the more shade options you start to search for.
Engaging in colouring in can lower your heart rate and breathing rate, help you find some calm in your day, distract you from thoughts that cause anxious feelings and help you unwind before bed instead of watching television. It’s also a fantastic way to engage in a fun activity that your kids might enjoy to.
